The maison des voyageurs project was born from a meeting between théophile and thomas. théophile, a malagasy guide deeply involved in his local community, wanted to develop a community tourism project. tourisme communautairethomas, on his second stay in madagascar, had long dreamed of creating a solidarity and community tourism network.

Tourism can be a source of funding for the development of local structures.
Maison des voyageurs is a local malagasy association. its members are residents of the ambalahonko commune. the project aims to promote and develop the territory and the projects of the inhabitants of the ambalahonko commune.
All project revenues are reinvested in local projects.
This is a project based on values of sharing, solidarity, mutual support, and respect.
How does it work ?
The revenue generated by accommodation feeds the maison des voyageurs social fund. this fund is used to finance socio-economic projects in the area, such as financial support for partners, micro-loans for creating or developing activities, or funding infrastructure for health, education, water, and sanitation, or any other identified needs.
The activities offered during your stay are managed and led by partner village associations. together, we define financial goals to achieve to support their economic development (purchasing materials, training members, etc.). the revenue from these activities funds the partners' savings. once the goals are reached, the partners have money to invest in their field. the aim is to strengthen the economic structures of the territory by increasing their investment capacity.
Ambalahonko means "around the mangrove." local environmental associations work to protect and preserve the mangrove around the commune's villages.
Les revenues de la taxe solidaire environnementale (10 000 ar, environ 2 euros par séjour) alimentent le fonds environnementale de la Maison Des Voyageurs qui participera aux financements des projets des associations environnementales.
